The Practice of Testing an ITS System Based on NTCIP

In order to ensure the compatibility and the quality of ITS System, it should be better to introduce some tests. A practice on an ITS system based on NTCIP protocol is presented. This project is conducted as a supervisor project for Beijing Haidian District Traffic Signal control system. Using the V-model test theory, it is shown what can be done on an ITS system installed by the manufacturer. All the tests include function test, protocol conformance test and system performance test. With just the tests that have been done so far, defects were found in the system and many tuning techniques for the whole system were learned. It was also realized that there are new requirements that should be stated. For example, the system should provide more flexible logging or alarm information to user.
