Handicapping U.S. High Speed Rail

This article lists the high-speed rail projects currently in competition for high-speed rail (HSR) funding throughout the U.S. and examines their chances of receiving stimulus funds. Competitors include the California Corridor, the Chicago Hub Network, Florida Corridor, Northeast Corridor, Pacific Northeast Corridor, Southeast Corridor, Empire Corridor, Keystone Corridor, South Central Corridor, and the Gulf Coast Corridor. A sidebar article looks at the level of interest there is in high speed rail: The Federal Railroad Administration received 278 pre-applications for high speed rail grant funding in the amount of $102 billion. The current available stimulus money amounts to only $8 billion.
