CATALYTIC DISSOCIATION AND STRESS CORROSION CRACKING

THE PAPER REPORTS A STUDY OF HYDROGEN ASSISTED CRACKING IN 4340 STEEL. THE COMPACT TENSION TYPE SPECIMENS WERE NORMALIZED AUSTENIZED, OIL QUENCHED, AND TEMPERED. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE SPECIMEN AND THE EXPERIMENTAL SET UP. THE RELATIVE DISPLACEMENT OF THE PIN HOLES WAS MEASURED BY A LINEAR VOLTAGE DIFFERENTIAL TRANSDUCER (LVDT). FIGURES ILLUSTRATING THE LVDT OUTPUT ARE PRESENTED. CONCLUSIONS MADE ON THE BASIS OF THE STUDY ARE DISCUSSED.
