TRENDS IN VOLUME OF GOODS TRANSPORT, NUMBERS OF HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES LICENSED, AND AVERAGE CARRYING CAPACITIES OVER THE PAST 15 YEARS ARE ANALYSED. DATA ON THE EXPENDITURE ON TRANSPORT BY INDUSTRY, OBTAINED FROM CENSUSES OF PRODUCTION, ARE PRESENTED. FORECASTS ARE MADE OF THE NUMBERS OF HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES AND THE AMOUNTS OF TRAVEL BY HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES THAT CAN BE EXPECTED IF RECENT TRENDS CONTINUE.
