Evaluation of Optimized Pavement Roughness in IRAN
This paper addresses the determination of allowable limits of roughness (IRI) with the objective of various PMS (pavement management system) applications using IRI data that are related to the IRAN road network with different geographical conditions. First, raw roughness data were analyzed by the developed software produced by researcher; moreover, these prepared data were inserted to the HDM-4 and then analyzed by using the both RUE (road user effects) and the RD (road deteriorations) models. As a result the IRI guideline of 1.59 m/km was determined as allowable roughness for new built roads and the IRI guideline of 2.84 m/km were settled as optimized roughness for IRAN road network in addition to threshold of 5 m/km as the commencement of major actions including overlay and any other important measurements.
