AN ANALYSIS OF THE COSTS AND BENEFITS OF I-80 IN SOUTHWESTERN WYOMING

BENEFIT-COST ANALYSIS WAS USED TO ESTIMATE ALL COSTS AND BENEFITS OF THAT PART OF THE NEW INTERSTSTE HIGHWAY (I-80) TRAVERSING A CORRIDOR IN SOUTHWESTERN WYOMING. THE MAJOR COST ITEMS IN THE CORRIDOR CONSISTED OF CONSTRUCTION EXPENDITURES AND MAINTENANCE EXPENDITURES ON THE NEW HIGHWAY. THE PRIMARY BENEFITS ESTIMATED IN THE STUDY WERE CHANGES IN TRAVEL TIME, VEHICLE OPERATING COSTS, AND ACCIDENT RATES RESULTING FROM THE NEW HIGHWAY. THE IMPORTANCE OF INDIRECT BENEFITS AND COSTS WERE ALSO DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
