COALESCING PLATES AND PACKS FOR OIL WATER SEPARATION IN VARIOUS SHIPBOARD APPLICATIONS
Coalescing plates and packs were evaluated under varying parameters of plate length, plate angle, flow rate, oil concentration, oil types, emulsification and motion to determine the application of this method of oil separation from water in various shipboard applications. Shipboard separators are defined for bilge applications at 100 GPM and ballast and oil spill clean-up applications at 1000 GPM. Emulsification curves were developed showing partial size and particle distribution for the mixer setting and the centrifugal pump. (Author)
