VORTEX CONCEPT FOR SEPARATING OIL FROM WATER
Oil-water separators are required for removing the oil from oil-water mixtures such as factory waste water, ship's bilge water, and ship's ballast water, or can be used in an oil-spill clean-up system. The study evaluates the feasibility of using a refined vortex separator for various shipboard applications. The report contains three main sections: a discussion of vortex separator test results (including test results for a 6-in.-dia/10-gpm separator and for a 9.5-in.-dia/50-gpm separator); a discussion of a scaling technique; and an evaluation of the separator for shipboard applications.
