TERMINAL FACILITIES MODEL - CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

THIS IS A PRELIMINARY FRAMEWORK TO THE QUANTITATIVE AND STATISTICAL TESTS OF RELATIONSHIPS TO BE UNDERTAKEN FOR THE "EAST-WEST GATEWAY FREIGHT TERMINAL MODEL STUDY. "THE FRAMEWORK" IS TO ACT AS A GUIDE FOR CONTINUING TO ANALYZE DATA, IDENTIFYING KEY RELATIONSHIPS, PERFORMING STATISTICAL ANALYSES, AND DEVELOPING A FORECASTING TECHNIQUE FOR RELATING FREIGHT TERMINAL TRANSPORT DEMAND TO THE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS. THE "CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK" BRIEFLY DISCUSSES FOUR ASPECTS OF THE STUDY: (1) INDIVIDUAL TERMINALS IN ST. LOUIS; (2) TERMINAL AREAS IN ST. LOUIS; (3) TRAFFIC DEMAND, AND (4) TRUCK TERMINALS AND THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM. THE PROCEDURE HOPEFULLY WILL PROVIDE A FLEXIBLE PLANNING TOOL THAT CAN BE USED BY THE PLANNER, AND ALSO USED BY THE TERMINAL OPERATORS IN MAKING POLICY DECISIONS.
