THE BOOK IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS, EACH DEALING WITH AN ASPECT OF FREIGHT MOVEMENT PECULIAR ONLY TO THE NEW YORK METROPOLITAN REGION. THE FIRST PART DEALS WITH THE FOREIGN TRADE MOVEMENT THROUGH THE PORT OF NEW YORK. IT DESCRIBES THE HISTORY OF THE PORT, AND PREDICTS A LIKELY TREND OF GROWTH IN THE FUTURE. PART TWO OF THE BOOK DEALS WITH THE WAY IN WHICH THE CONDITIONS OF FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION IN THE REGION AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE AND LOCATION OF OTHER INDUSTRIES, NOTABLY MANUFACTURING. IT INCLUDES DISCUSSION ON PATTERNS OF LOCATION, TRENDS OF LOCATION, AND THE FUTURE OF INDUSTRY.
