FREIGHT FACILITY COMPENDIUM

THIS DOCUMENT DESCRIBES IN DETAIL THE STAFF EVALUATION OF THE SHORT RANGE FREIGHT FACILITY STUDIES CONDUCTED BY THE CATS BETWEEN 1969 AND 1971. IT IS A COMPENDIUM OF THE LOCAL FREIGHT INDUSTRY'S PROJECTED FACILITY INVESTMENT PROGRAMS. IT PROVIDES A FORECAST OF FREIGHT FACILITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH 1975 BASED ON THE TRANSPORT INDUSTRY'S CURRENT PERCEPTION OF THE REGIONAL DEMAND FOR ITS SERVICES. THE REPORT CONCLUDES THAT PRIVATE PLANNING TENDS TO PERPETUATE EXISTING PATTERNS OF LOCATION AND SERVICE. COMPREHENSIVE, COOPERATIVE, MULTIMODAL PLANNING, WHICH PROVIDES A GOOD CLIMATE FOR INNOVATION, MAY YIELD GUIDELINES FOR FACILITY INVESTIMENT WHICH WILL PROMOTE GREATER EFFICIENCY IN THE REGIONAL FREIGHT COMPLEX.
