AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL (ISO) FREIGHT CONTAINERS
The American National Standards Committee on Standardization of Freight Containers, MH5, approved the issuance of a standard incorporating the essential ISO/TC 104 agreements on container specifications as an American National Standard. The container specifications of ISO are a composite of the design criteria for all surface transportation: road, rail, and sea. No attempt was made to permit modal combinations less than all three (3) as is permitted in the MH5 domestic container specifications. For those distribution systems which include international movement, it is advisable to meet the design requirements for freight containers developed by Technical Committee 104 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which has considered the internal transportation limitations of the various Member Bodies throughout the world. This standard supersedes the information document endorsed by the MH5 Standards Committee in December 1968. The standard will be updated as new and revised ISO Recommendations are approved by ISO.
