A SURVEY OF ANALYTICAL METHODS FOR DYNAMIC SIMULATION OF CABLE-BODY SYSTEMS

The purpose of the report is to review the available methods for analyzing the dynamic motions of cable-body combinations used as either mooring or towing systems. These methods are grouped according to the manner by which the cable, as a component in the whole system, is simulated. The central idea, merits, and demerits of each group of methods are presented. Minor differences between the methods belonging to the same group are not discussed. An introduction to various types of cable-body systems and a discussion of the motivations for dynamic analysis of these systems are initially presented. (Author)
