EVALUATION OF A MODULAR HIGH-RPM DIESEL-ELECTRIC SHIP PROPULSION PLANT

This report investigates methods of reducing marine power plant costs through the use of modular components. In this study a modular diesel-electric plant was developed for a containership application and its economic aspects investigated in comparison with more conventional power plants. While the results of the study showed higher overall costs for the particular configuration and application selected, a detailed analyses of these costs revealed areas where improvements could realistically be attempted.
