ECONOMIC IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF THE PORT OF TAMPA, TAMPA PORT AUTHORITY, FLORIDA

The report documents the results of a marketing and economic impact assessment of the Port of Tampa. The principal objective of the study is to determine the role that the Port of Tampa has in the economy of the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County. Key findings indicate that the Port of Tampa contributed over $500 million in direct economic benefits to the community during 1978; that approximately 5800 employees are directly involved with day-to-day activity at the port; and the port contributed an additional $450 million in savings and benefits to those firms that shipped their products via Tampa. Because of the services of the Port of Tampa, over 30,000 manufacturing, wholesale and retail jobs were supported. Direct participants include those sectors of the economy that are directly dependent on the port and the activities that occur in the port.
