Pavement Management Basics and Benefits: A Strategy of Prevention
Rising materials costs have managers of infrastructure seeking better and more cost-effective ways to manage assets. With these increasing costs, the value of in-place materials rises and become more expensive to maintain at an acceptable level of service. Managers of these assets are seeing greater value in using a pavement management system to maintain their systems in a more cost-effective manner. With these issues in mind, this article provides an overview of pavement maintenance and rehabilitation as the 2 principal treatments used to extend pavement life, as well as describing an effective pavement management system.
