THE MOTORCYCLE AND ITS DRIVER. A SURVEY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE VEHICLE POPULATION, ACCIDENTS AND BEHAVIOUR OF MOTORCYCLISTS

DE MOTORFIETS EN ZIJN BESTUURDER. EEN ONDERZOEK NAAR DE ONTWIKKELING VAN HET VOERTUIGPARK, HET ONGEVALLENBEELD EN HET GEDRAG VAN MOTORRIJDERS

More and heavier motorcycles are being bought. The specific characteristics of motorcycles induce specific and deviant behaviour of motorcyclists, who can be said to form a sub-culture. Twice as many serious accidents per 1000 occur with motorcycles as with other motorized vehicles. Motorcycle accidents have certain typical characteristics. In an observational survey motorcyclists are found to exceed the speed limit more frequently than do car drivers. Attention to vehicle handling and mental training in driver training and driving testing is recommended. /TRRL/
