STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF VIBRATION PARAMETERS ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF CONCRETE

ETUDE DE L'INFLUENCE DES PARAMETRES DE LA VIBRATION SUR LE COMPORTEMENT DES BETONS

The vibration used for the placing of concrete can be defined by the characteristics of the movement applied. These characteristics are: the direction, force, frequency, acceleration and duration. The object of this study is to define the role of these characteristics on the placing of concrete with a view to obtaining a better knowledge of the influence of the design and adjustment of the equipment on the quality of manufactured products. The main characteristics considered here are the influence of acceleration frequency and of the duration of vertical harmonic vibration. Test results show that vibration characteristics must be selected as a function of the concrete to be subjected to vibration and that, for a given type of concrete, there exists an optimum value of vibration energy. This energy corresponds to a value of the acceleration/frequency relation from which it is possible to choose several frequency/acceleration values that give a highly satisfactory placing of concrete. Among these values a choice must be made taking into account possible vibration duration and practical conditions of application. /TRRL/
