DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW DETECTOR FOR OIL IN WATER

This Report which is available in microfiche form, describes a new technique for the determination of small quantities of oil in shipboard waste waters. The method, which is applicable to the quantitative analysis of undissolved oil present in water over a range of 0-30 ppm, is based on a principle of filtration through a dye-impregnated pad followed by colour matching with standards of known concentration. The measurements are unaffected by the presence of common surfactants and the method can be performed by non-technical personnel.
