Accessible coach trial - final report
Accessible coaches were introduced on the National Express 403 route from Bath to Victoria Coach Station, London, via Heathrow Airport. These coaches had mechanical lifts to assist wheelchair users. This document reports the results and conclusions of the monitoring project that studied coach usage before and after the introduction. Between April 2002 and March 2004, 41 one-way trips were made by some 30 travellers. Half of these trips generated complaints that the drivers were unable to use the equipment, or that the equipment was broken, causing distress to the passenger. Overall low usage levels meant that no conclusion could be drawn from the data, except confirmation that it is possible to run accessible vehicles on scheduled coach services.
