BENDING AND TORSION INTERACTION OF BOX GIRDERS

The results obtained from the model studies, as given herein, indicate the following: (1) Present elastic bending and torsional theories are accurate; (2) twelve models, whose elements were designed according to present AASHTO LFD criteria, safely carried the elastic and ultimate loads; and (3) lateral bracing is effective in creating a pseudo closed section. Using the results from the model tests and clasical theory an interaction equation was developed. This nondimensional equation can be used to expedite the load factor design of curved steel box girders. /Authors/
