PUBLIC LIGHTING INSIDE BUILT-UP AREAS

OPENBARE VERLICHTING BINNEN DE BEBOUWDE KOM

The main functions of public lighting inside built-up areas can be summarized as follows (1) lighting for the benefit of road traffic, traffic safety, (2) lighting for the benefit of aesthetical, cultural and recreational purposes. More than ever the question of how to save energy and to maintain the level of public lighting must be considered. The use of alternative lighting installations; alternative bulbs with different luminances; the use of day/night switches; the improvement of reflecting properties of road surfaces and another interpretation of the specifications at another categorization of roads are discussed. /TRRL/
