PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF REINFORCED EARTH CONSTRUCTION

The reinforced earth concept first developed in France envisaged reinforcing earth with horizontal metal elements extending from a comparatively thin facing of concrete or steel into a selected granular backfill material to form a retaining or a supporting structure. The paper describes the basic concept and the specifications for the materials to be used. It also describes slide correction work on which this construction has been used. The other applications and its potentials for enhancing the aesthetics are also brought out. /TRRL/
