The article discusses the greater acceptance being shown in concrete pumping which now accounts for 10% of all concrete placed in the UK. A number of advantages of pumping concrete are outlined such as access to site, speed of placing, concrete quality control, finishing, and, plant requirements. These aspects are discussed in relation to the economics of concrete pumping, machine utilization and whether equipment is hired or owned. The mechanics of pumping equipment operation and its ability to handle a range of concrete mixes through varying diameter delivery pipes over a range of distances is also described. /TRRL/
