A design concept for recycling deteriorated asphalt pavements using a single reclaiming agent has been developed. The article established guidelines to help engineers determine the physical and chemical deficiencies of a particular pavement, design the proper mix with the use of a reclaiming agent, and predict the properties of the asphalt in the finished pavement. Desirable properties for a suitable reclaiming agent and important construction criteria for the recycling procedure are examined. The developmental program demonstrates that reclaiming agents can be designed for use as the sole additive for recycling substandard or deteriorated asphalt pavements.
