Weight reduction, corrosion resistance cost savings and styling changes are the key influences behind the many changes in materials applications for the '79 cars. Weight is still the no. 1 problem and downsizing is still the principal cure. Principal uses of a number of key automobile materials are highlighted, including aluminum sheet and castings, coated and HSLA (high-strength low-alloy) steels, RIM (reaction injection molding) urethanes and other plastics.
