CHOOSING BETWEEN PLASTICS AND DIE CAST METALS

Die cast metals and injection-molded plastics, and sometimes sheet molding compounds as well, often compete for the same application. Which one is selected depends on which can provide the required performance at lowest cost. This article presents the key selection factors to consider for product design. The applications for which the two materials compete include computer printer frames, car grille tops and intake manifolds, as well as vacuum cleaner bases.
