SELECTION OF TRANSPORT MODE IN JOURNEY TO WORK: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

VERKEHRSMITTELWAHL IM BERUFSVERKEHR: BEDEUTUNG PERSONENBEZOGENER MERKMALE

In an attempt to improve the clarity of traffic planning models, personal characteristics are becoming of increasing importance. For time and cost reasons extensive information gained from public opinion polls should be used in this connection. From an example (west) it is possible, with these data to show that behaviour as regards the use of transport modes varies in relation to sex, place of employment, and the age of a particular group. These differences also occur in the case of territorial differentiations, so that - at least for journey to work - the use of census data may be recommended for use in modal split models. /TRRL/
