THE FATIGUE CHARACTERISTICS OF GUSSASPHALT TEST SAMPLES AND THEIR RELATION TO RESULTS OF CONVENTIONAL TEST METHODS

The purpose of these investigations was to clarify basic questions concerning the fatigue of asphalt on bridge. Initially predominately conventional tests were carried out for fatigue, based on the principle of alternating bending at constant amplitude, for evaluating parameters for the binder and for strength and deformation values. From the results of the fatigue tests particular load-extension change relationships were evaluated which formed a basis for further computations. The object of these computations was to establish relationships between the binder parameters, temperature and binder content and in addition to establish relationships between the appropriate strength and deformation values of gussasphalts and the evaluated fatigue results. The method adopted for this - multiple correlations and regression analysis - made it possible to establish additionally the significance of those factors which have a definite influence on fatigue. With the relationships shown obtained from regressions equations the fatigue characteristics in the form of a comparison of the binder-aggregate mixes investigated can be judged. /TRRL/
