ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SURFACE SHAPE OF PAVEMENTS WITH RESPECT TO THE WATER RUNOFF

DIE MASSLICHE FRFASSUNG DER OBERFLAECHENGESTALT VON FAHRBAHNEN IM HINBLICK AUF DEN WASSERABFLUSS

Under heavy rainfall the occurrence of a closed water film on the highway surface is unavoidable. The question of a "critical" water film thickness requires consideration of the macro-roughness of the highway surface from the viewpoint of dewatering possibilities. As the water runoff is a three dimensional phenomenon, the two dimensional method of approach which has hitherto been employed should be replaced by a three dimensional one. The time consuming problem of considering the geometrical properties and their relation to the depth over a reference area can be simplified by an extension of the known method of runoff measurements. A proposal for the construction of the necessary measuring equipment is presented. /TRRL/
