DRIVING APTITUDE AND FITNESS TO DRIVE IN TRAFFIC FROM THE MEDICAL VIEWPOINT

FAHRTAUGLICHKEIT UND FAHRTUECHTIGKEIT IM STRASSENVERKEHR AUS AMTSAEZTLICHER SICHT

Fitness to drive and driving aptitude are only apparently identical terms. Driving aptitude implies only that a person complies with the legal requirements for driving a motor vehicle. This does not necessarily mean to say that he must always be in a fit condition to drive. Fitness to drive is much more a medical expression, the problems of which involve one in the fields of psychology and ethics. From the legal viewpoint, the question remains as to whether the driver may be expected to recognise his temporary unfitness to drive. /TRRL/
