DETERMINATION OF THE WATER CONTENT OF FRESH CONCRETE BY THE SPIRITS METHOD

BESTIMMUNG DES WASSERGEHALTES IM FRISCHBETON NACH DER SPIRITUSMETHODE

As the Austrian Standard OENORM B 3303 contains no precise data regarding the determination of water content, the most effective test procedure is that using the Spirits method. This enables one to determine water content with sufficient accuracy. The best approach, both in the first addition of spirits and also in subsequent wettings, is to add about 10% of the concrete weight in spirits. The wetting and drying is to be repeated until complete water loss is recognisable from the evenly light colour of the dry mixture. /TRRL/
