"AUTOSCHILD" - A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR AUTOMATION OF THE DESIGN OF TRAFFIC SIGNS

AUTOSCHILD - EIN DV-PROGRAM ZUR AUTOMATION IM ENTWURF VON WEGWEISENDEN VERKEHRSSCHILDERN

Traffic signs are designed in such a way that they can be read by drivers from specified distances. The computer program "autoschild" permits the proper design of lettered traffic signs according to the applicable design rules. A uniform layout of signs is achieved automatically with flexible development of the design rules with advances in technical knowledge. The relatively high labour content is reduced. Simultaneously with the FORTRAN IV program "autoschild" a drawing programme was set up, the input from which enabled the automatic production of detail drawings with the aid of an automatic plotter. The design rules and the data required for the automation for both lettering and arrows are explained, and the data input is illustrated by means of three examples. /TRRL/
