BIG BUOY
Two buoys have been constructed by the Oil Equipment Div of IHC Holland for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group and BP for handling 240,000 tons dwt tankers. On top of the buoy a turntable is mounted, to which on one side the heavy mooring hawser is fixed and on the other side the floating hoses are connected through which the oil flows from the tanker to the buoy, thence via the pipes in the buoy body and finally via submarine pipe line to the shore installation, and in reverse direction for loading of the tanker.
