UNSURPASSED LOADS FOR TIMBER PILINGS

The tests were conducted at three different sites in the Winnemucca, Nevada area where the highway route follows, in part, the meandering course of Nevada's longest river. The 450 pilings, 15 in. at the butt, 8 in. at the tip, and 50 to 65-ft long, were pressure creosoted for the project. Used as a foundation for support of a 900-ft-long concrete superstructure, the timbers have been design engineered for a load of 70 tons per pile. /EI/
