A new guide to asphalt thickness for low-volume roads is discussed to make the economical choice. The method involves determining the thickness of full-depth asphalt pavement that would be required to handle the load on the road under consideration. From this is deducted a thickness that is equivalent to the carrying capacity of the paving material in place. The difference is the necessary overlay thickness. /EI/
