NON-FLOW BULK -- STILL SEARCHING FOR THE BEST SOLUTION

Traditionally, non-free-flowing bulk minerals, fertilizer products as well as feedstuffs, have presented stevedores with considerable handling problems. With escalating demand for such commodities, especially cereal substitutes, and the consequent increase in vessel size, equipment manufacturers have developed unloaders and special attachments in an effort to improve turnaround and minimize labor requirements. In spite of these developments, however, and faced with the possibility of increasingly rigid governmental restrictions regarding working environments, it is apparent that stevedores are still searching for the ultimate solution to their handling difficulties.
