The establishment of forest products as a specialty trade is still a relatively new situation. Purposely designed terminals specially equipped to service sophisticated tonnage speedily but with minimal cargo damage are still not universal, though they are becoming more and more a feature of the modern port's sales package. Forest products producers allied with specialist shipowners and stevedores are continuing to upgrade the whole forest products handling system and at the same time, are having to accommodate the changing nature of the trades, which increasingly raises the question of which vessel type is best.
