INTERACTIVE CURVE CREATION FROM FORM PARAMETERS BY MEANS OF B-SPLINES

Computer aided design of ships and graphical techniques for generating curves and surfaces is assessed. Both basic methods and the application of interactive parameters in design of optimal hull lines are outlined. Considerable new insights have been gained from the methods developed in computer graphics for interactive free form design, notably those based on parametric curves and surface patches. Today it is feasible with the aid of computers and interactive graphical techniques to apply effective, existing mathematical methods to initial design of curves and patches, and to develop further improved methods. Interactive design methods at a display terminal are particularly promising since they permit the designer to apply his experience and skill.
