A survey is made of existing and proposed crude oil loading terminals for vessels in the Middle East, Africa, and European trunk ports. It is shown that terminals for vessels of 150,000 dwt and above, are in the two major crude oil exporting areas, the Middle East and Africa. There are also a few other minor VLCC terminals in some of the other less important crude exporting areas of the world. Persian Gulf facilities are the most advanced with the major terminals being able to load 300,000 tonners plus, and most of the others, 200/250000 tonners, full or part laden. In Africa the two major exporting countries, Libya and Nigeria, are well developed for VLCC's, being able to take 250,000 tonners. Other VLCC loading terminals can in most cases only accommodate 150,000 tonners. VLCC discharge terminals are discussed.
