Weighing up the advantages

This article looks at the use of modern technological advances in weighbridges at quarrying sites to improve operational flexibility, security and efficiency. Automatic number plate recognition systems can be used to operate traffic lights and control security barriers, with number plate details programmed directly into the weight terminal. Electronic signature pads can be integrated with driver-operated weighing instrumentation, to provide a permanent record for each weighing: a signature may be required for entry or exit and adds security and traceability to the process. Wireless connectivity enables communication between the weighbridge and a distant office. Software developments improve data collection and site management from a central location. Improvements are also still being made in weighbridge design and installation, including modular construction for transportability, and the ability to install a weighbridge on a sloping site.
