Part I gives the arguments why it has become necessary to work out safety requirements for Automated Guideway Transit Systems. Safety terms are defined, and systematics of all measures for the improvement of safety are given. In Part II, safety measures are treated according to the fail-safe principle and some principles of realisation are explained by example.
