Firms: Changes in Trip Patterns, Product Prices, Locations and in the Human Resources Policy Due to Road Pricing
This chapter focuses on the effects of road pricing on firms. The authors argue that road pricing may affect firms’ decisions in various ways; road pricing may affect not only firms’ travel behavior, but also their business and human resource policies. The chapter considers the effects of kilometer charging on trip frequency, time of travel and types of trips (for example, business or transport of goods). Moreover, the chapter examines to what extent firms intend to reimburse their employees, which may seriously affect the effectiveness of kilometer charging on commuter trips. The chapter also describes to what degree firms consider mitigating (extra) costs due to a kilometer charge by increasing the prices of their goods and services and whether firms plan to relocate if a kilometer charge is implemented.
