ADHESION BONDS IN SAND AT HIGH PRESSURES

The discussers comment on the elastic behavior of randomly packed spherical particles subjected to an isotropic pressure, and on the plotting of the variation of elastic volumetric strain with isotropic pressure for particulate materials. Also discussed are the results of isotropic swelling test carried out on triaxial samples of a fine Ottawa sand. Comments are also made on the elastic energy correction during drained tests on sand, the energy dissipation function used in modified Cam-Clay models for static tests on sand, and the point of the stress-strain curve for determining the theoretical value of M using the Cam-Clay and Modified Cam-Clay models.
