ACOUSTIC EMISSION BEHAVIOR OF COHESIVE SOILS. CLOSURE

The author discusses comments made by discussers which relate to the acoustic emission graphical evaluation of the preconsolidation pressure. Comments were also made on the trend of the acoustic emission behaior as a function of stress level. In the granular soils tested, the amplitude of emissions increased rapidly as failure was approached. It is suggested that quick clays are also suitable candidates for acoustic emission testing. The authors agree that dilatancy is an important factor in acoustic emission response.
