The authors take note of discusser's data on a CH clay that supports their proposed hypothesis of uniqueness of stress-strain rate relationship during undrained deformation. The hypothesis was found equally valid for the overconsolidated clay and also under the diect simple shear stress conditions. Comments are also made on the equation of state which has been shown to the valid for metals and plastics and has long formed the basis for solution of time-dependent deformation problems involving complex time-deformation histories, when the only stress-strain-time data available are from tests using relatively simple time-deformation histories.
