The structural integrity audit and the associated supplementary inspection document and the Significant Structural Items (SSI) which they are designed to identify and treat are described and explained. Aircraft structure lives are measured in hours or landings or both. Boeings experience with the 707/720 family, and Fokker's and Fairchild's experience with short-haul structures are discussed. The Mandatory Occurrence Report (MOR) called for by the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority (CCA) is noted. Comments are made on the use of composite materials, and the performance of non-destructive testing.
