TUNNELLING IN SOFT GROUND. INFORMATION FROM THE SPECIALITY SESSION NO 1 IN TOKYO

The report presents a review of papers presented at the session of the conference proceedings concerning developments in soft ground tunnelling. Three particular aspects were chosen for discussion: (1) correlation between construction methods and deformation of soil and earth pressure, (2) measurements of settlement and earth pressure, and (3) methods of calculation. The following papers are included in this review: New ground engineering ideas in Japan (Braun, WM); Theory and praxis of soft ground tunnelling by the slurry mole method (Miki, G, Saito, T and Yamazaki, H); Slurry mole drive beneath Kita-ku (Braun, WM); Tunnelling in soft ground with the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), (Golser, J, Hackl, E and Jostl, J); Blade shield with Gunite concrete lining (Babendererde, S); and, World-wide interest in ground anchors (Littlejohn, GS and Deppner). /TRRL/
