An Italian firm manufactures vibrating units, vibrators, for driving and extracting various types of pile. The vibrator is suspended from a mobile crane and acts on the suspended piles by vertical vibrations combined with a constant pressure or tensional force. The vibrations are generated by eight eccentric masses mounted on two shafts which rotate in opposite directions. The speed and length of stroke can be easily changed to suit the size and mass of the piles and the ground conditions. The shafts are supported in spherical roller bearings of the type developed by skf specially for vibrational applications.
