PARAMETRIC INVESTIGATIONS OF VIBRATING CABLE NETWORKS

Natural frequencies and modes of vibration are determined for hyperbolic paraboloid cable networks composed of a linkage of straight members connected by frictionless pins with concentrated masses lumped at the connection points. The frequencies and mode shapes are determined through a QL transformation procedure using the linear equations of motion. A numerical problem is examined and the natural frequencies are presented. Six parameter studies are conducted to determine how the natural frequencies and mode shapes are altered in response to variations in scale factor, mass, applied force, modulus of elasticity, prestress, and sag. /ASCE/
